Is it ok to have an automatic to set at half throttle?
Hey all I've a 91 Camaro with a rebuilt performance automatic 700R4 trans. I had recently replaced the TV cable and had it set at half throttle. I noticed the car was shifting later on first gear and give a good crisp shift but I was concerned about the longevity, so the trans tuned it down so it close to OEM shifting. Boy, I miss those crisp shifts. If set it back to half throttle will the transmission have serious adverse effects? By the way my car is a daily driven street car. Please let me know what you guys think.

I don't know about this particularly, but I have heard of improper TV cable setting ruining a transmission over time..usually sooner rather than later.
What do you mean by set it to half throttle.
If you mean its pulled out all the way by half throttle, how do you give it anymore gas?
YOu want it so that the TV cable is pulled all the way out at WOT, if its not, you don't get the line pressures you need to shift properly at WOT and you burn clutches.

It will be ok to do this. The other way around is when you have a problem. To little pressure with good throttle opening. The only problem with going half way is that once you reach half throttle thats it. The linkage will not go anymore. So your tranny is at full fluid pressure and your motor is not at full tilt. I personally modify the stroke to give me full pressure at WOT and more than factory throught the stroke. It seems to keep them alive a hell of alot longer. Shifts a little higher and a little harder. This was fine until i steped up the power drastically and now nothing will save the 700r4. (Well exept hordes of money).

To the thread starter, when you hit the gas, the cables just going to ratchet back out, anyhow. On top of that, the cable doesnt always self adjust properly.
Jsut set the cable at maximum tension when the throttle is fully open.
