2-4 band clearence.

How much clearence does the 2-4 band need? I have a vette servo and the instructions I got with my shiftkit said to wiggle the band and make sure it would move about 1/8 of an inch from side to side but this doesnt seem to be easily done through the side of the case as suggested. I dont have a dial gauge on me at the moment but if I push on the servo cover, itll be about flush with the servo bore when the band is applied. I guestimate thats about .040" when measuring with a depth pin on a set of calipers. If need be I can get something more accurate this weekend. Is that too tight? Should I maybe remove a gold shim for the servo that was supplied with my kit or should I leave it as is?

Band wiggle is checked from the bottom of the case. There is a sight hole near the shaft shaft. The band needs to be able to be moved c.a. 1/16" or more fore and aft.

I saw that hole and I can move it a bit but was a little unclear of how easily it should move. They said easily but I sure as hell cant tell with a screw driver. Dont have much feel. It does move a tad to either side if I push on the opposing side of the band so I guess it has enough clearence? I dont want to burn up another band. Already went a year with pretty much only 1st and 3rd and it sucks.
