Most in fact are ten bolts but they are worse than the crappy 9 bolts. The ten bolt is a 7.5" ring gear with c-clip axle retention and the 9 bolt is a 7.75" ring gear but also has bolt in axle retention so it is better but not great.

okay thats kinda helpful, the reason i was asking is b/c...

my 85 TA originally had a 9-bolt disc brake rear end and the ring and pinion was so worn out the teeth were sharp and it hummed and whined so i switched to a 10 bolt drum brake rear end,
i still have the disc rear end master cylinder in the car and im buying a parts car that has disc rear and i was going to be changing my gear ratio to a 4.10 from a 3.42 and i figured i could do the new gears in the disc rear, THEN swap THAT into my car, keeping the disc rear master cylinder, so as long as its the 10-bolt i should be fine right? because i know they dont make new ringa nd pinions for the 9-bolt...

Yes that should work out okay. You can get gears for the 9 bolt but the selection is very limited and forums_suck price of 166.00??? I think there was an error there as the last time I priced them out it was double that but it has been a while since I bothered with the 9 bolt. Good deal if thats the case. Regardless your twn bolt plan will work but don't expect that ten bolt to last long if you run slicks or pound it to hard. Good luck

Yeah its similar in design but not nearly as strong or good. Some guys have shimmed them up REAL tight with carrier mods but still a crappy rear IMO. Not very strong and noisy with oddball, hard to find, expensive parts.
