manual swap

Hi I have been racing with a rebuilt 700r4 trans in my 89 camaro for the past year and I have been toying with the idea of converting to stick. The problem is finding a 5 or 6 speed trans that can hold up to racing stress. I never dynoed my car but I estimate that I am making around 650ft/lb of torque with a 150 shot of the go go juice. I came across these guys http://www.x2cmotorsports.com/tranny_shop.shtml
I know the first thing you think is that they are mustang guys but they claim that their rebuilt tremec tko 500 can reliably handle a 9 second 3300lb car. Lemme know your thoughts are I am very curious to see what you think. Thanks

is it a stock rebuilt 700r4 you have been running

the t56 is very beefy stock. are you running slicks or planning on it?

Maybe Brutalform will chime in. He was makin 750+ ft lbs with his combo. He used a tremec trans that held up and worked perfectly!:hail:

here we go t56 is the only way to go...a centerforce will hole 700hp according to the tech department at centerforce for the lt1 than the slp steel billet light flywheel 19lbs...and sfi approved so wont warp or shatter than this built up t56 that can take 650lbs of torque

Thanks for the replies. As far as the 700r4 ,no it is not a stock rebuild it was rebuilt by hughes transmission to be reliable as long as power was kept under 800ft/lbs. Yes I do run slicks 10.5 inch tire. As far as the ddperformance link goes your talking 500 to 600 more dollars than the mustang guys. I gather from the posts you dont like the tremec 5 speed idea.

lt1 flywheel/clutch options are alot stronger out there than t5...not to mention t5's are weak unless you get the new 600 or 500 tko's
