Well I found a really nice Z28 with only 62000 miles on it. te only problem is that the tranny is shot. First what sort of tranny did these have and second how much should I expect to pay for a new tranny plus instalation. My father is really giving me a hard time about this and I'm just trying to show him that this is a simple task because he thinks that im buying some POS and that its gonna cost me more money than i have to make it work.

 

It probably has a 700r4 (4l60). A typical drop the car off and pick it up price in my area is about $1,200.00. This is for a stock rebuild with a stock remanufactured torque converter. I am certain that this ballpark price varies through out the country. Labor in my neck of the woods averages about $55-$60 per hr.

 

you can get a "stock" 700r4 with minor upgrades for $866 from bowtie overdrives. i have the level two and love it. if you have jacks and jackstands and basic hand tools you can do it yourself. i swapped out my 5 speed for the auto and it wasnt hard to do. they send complete instructions. i have never touched an automatic and it only took me 2 days. that was on a gravel driveway. the hardest part is getting the car up high enough.

Would a 4l60e mate to the 350? Im thinking about dropping a LQ9 6.0 in my car in the summer and dont want to spend money on 2 transmissions. any links to sites that this has been done?

Are you willing to spend several hundred dollars for a controller to run the 4L60-E?


Then find a used transmission, install it and enjoy the car. That's what I would more than likely do.

 

I agree. The engine in the car doesnt need a really beefed trans, just go with a used replacement. Find one with a decent warranty, at least 60 days.

 

I am going to be doing a T56 swap and i am looking to sell my 700R4 with a 3200 stall Vigilante TC. The trans is out of my 92 Z28 and was rebuilt about 2,000 miles ago. The trans is in perfrect working condition and is still in the car. If you are really interested we can go for a ride to insure quality and then i can pull it out. I am looking to get 1,000 for both the trans ans TC. The TC was 750.00 by itself.
