2 hours of "search" what shifter to choose?

b&m is out, i'll go ahead and say it, I have had 3 of them and I can't stand it anymore.

I'm going to go with hurst, but not sure which I want or need...I like the dual gate 2 but I have read that you can't slam them as hard as you can with b&m which doesn't bother me but it may take some getting used to

There are so many Hurst shifters for 700-r4 and so many opinions from people that don't post anymore that I don't know where to start. I do find the hurst dual gate to be very attractive but I don't know how it performs

If anyone has another idea on brands or styles please post, it is for an 84 camaro (85 console)

Alot of guys love the cheetah shifter, but I'm pretty sure they're for 3 speed trannies only.

I've never been a big fan of the B&M star or Mega shifters, the 2 very popular ones in use that are 4 speed compatible are the Quiksilver and the Pro-Ratchet. literally all of my close freinds run the Quicksilver and 2 of them have a stiff shift feel, almost like it's gummy inside instead of smooth like you'd expect. I bought the Pro-Ratchet and man is this thing nice. It features the same always center position like the quick silver after you get past reverse so the lever is always in the same spot when your driving and the feel is like butter always positive when hitting shifts with no way to screw them up, none of this pul the lever up to get it into park, or vise versa like some of the other B&M shifters out, that is one feature that I personally do not like.

I've only driven 2 cars with the Hurst shifters (race cars) one was the quater stick and other was the quarter stick pistol grip. The thing that I hated about this shifter is the fact you have to keep your hand inbetween the handle and the lever to pull/push second gear and then pull your hand away enough to pull the lever to activate 3rd gear. While on a street car this might not be as big a deal, but in a race car with the transbrake switch on the steering wheel, you usually steer with your left hand, hold the transbrake with your right thumb. Light turns yellow and you release the transbrake and have to fumble around trying to get your hand in position to pull the next gear, but not pull the lever-otherwise it'll go straight to 3rd gear and you just lost your race. Typically there's only about 2 seconds after you let go of the transbrake button before your pulling the next gear so you dont have much time to "think" about what your doing.

Nice thing with the Hurst 1/4 sticks is that you can modify them to work with 2, 3, or 4 speed trannies- standard and reverse pattern. But for a race car, look elsewhere and you'll thank me at the end of the day when your gettting your check
