Problems with 5th gear after rebuild

I just rebuilt my nwc t5 tranny 1-4th works fine but 5th gear grinds when shifting into 5th when I shift it quick, also it will pop out sometimes while driving down the road and I will have to shift it into 4th to slow it down to get it back into 5th. Can someone
tell me what I could have done wrong?
Thanks,
Mike

The T5 is not designed as a race trans. All the t5's I've ever driven will grind when shifting fast into overdrive.

If it's popping out of gear, you either forgot to reinstall the shift detent ***** for 5th, you bent a shift fork and it's not allowing full engagement, or you messed up 5th gear or the clustershaft from speed shifting into od.

Sounds to me like the Torrington bearing that belongs behind 5th gear is missing; or its race (looks like a thick washer) is missing.

Yes

On the back of the countergear, before you put on the extension housing, you should have a gear, a blocking ring (brass thing), the synchro assembly (consists of the hub and sleeve, with keys and springs inside the sleeve); then a small thick thrust washer, a Torrington bearing, a thinner larger thust washer, and a snap ring. A small plastic oil funnel should slip into the center of the shaft.

I tore my trans back apart and the inserts were missing???? I said"WTF"!!!!! I had not put the the retainer on corectly and the inserts fell out and were ground into metal dust. Those gears are pretty strong I cleaned the trans up with a pressure washer and replaced the 5th gear brass syncro and I am back in business. That is why I rebuilt my NWC trans first to learn from my f-ups. I have a WC trans I am going to rebuild next.
Thanks for Ya'lls help. Later
