Shifter, Pro5.0 Questions

I've looked around on here, and the favorite seems to be the pro5.0 shifter. I have a few questions.

1. I see you have to adjust it, how hard is this?
2. Do you still have to use the stock shifter shaft, and ****?
3. I've read some of you have shorted the stock shafts, what seems to be the best distance to shorten it? Or overall length would be great?

Incase I have a custom shaft made, anyone know the threads on the base?

1. You don't really adjust the shifter, you adjust two bolts that stop you from overextending the shift rail on hard shifts. Takes like 2 minutes.

2. The Pro 5.0 comes with a new shaft, but you can reuse your shifter ****.

ok, so it comes with a shaft too, cool. Most pictures I was seeing didnt show that.

I also assume I can go get any "replacement" shifter **** to put on top of it. I'm in middle of a 5sp swap and I think the shop is going to screw me and I wont be getting my shifter, shaft, **** back from them.

Adjustment sounds easy.

What, you mean you had it attached to the trans and they lost it?!?!! Sounds to me like you should get a discount to offset the added cost of buying a new shifter. I'd insist on it.

Sorry. I was given the lower section of a stock shifter with my trans. I took a shaft from another ride I parted out, and took both of them to a shop to have them matched for a custom shifter.

I told the shop to have it finished by new years. I have called, left msgs, and not heard back from them as to yet.

I am doing the trans conversion myself at my house. I didnt know I needed a different tqarm mount, and different crossmember. So them parts are on order. I was going to order a pro5.0 also and hope it all arrives at the same time.

here is a pic for you. The Pro 5.0 is a whole new unit. It comes with everything you need excpet the ****. The stock shaft won't even come off unless you cut it. Every pic of the Pro 5.0 that you have seen should have the shaft it came with. There is no reason to use anything else. The throws are super short. Something like 3.5" or total travel from 1rst to second. If you want a shorter throw you can cut the shaft down or buy what is called the "lou's short stick" if you do not have access to any type of cutter and have $40 in your pocket.

I just installed one and if you measure the throw from 1st to 2nd from a fixed point it was 4 1/8" total travel on my car.
