torque converter question

I am totally clueless on the whole torque converter thing. I am looking to get a new one sometime in the future, but i dont know where to start. I have a slightly modified carbed 350, and stock rear end gears. Im pretty sure there is a 700 R4 in the car. If someone could point me at a certain converter, or a good stall speed to stick around that would be great!!!
