Let's play "what's that funky sound?"

So in today's game, we diagnose an odd noise coming from a 3.23 open diff drum rearend. Basically, about half the time (and growing evermore frequent) when the tranny shifts, it will make a noise from the rear. Sounds like it is coming from the pumpkin itself. I can only describe this noise as the sound of someone banging on the bottom of the car with a wood hammer. Actually, it sounds a lot like the sound it made when I blew my tranny mount, except, again, this noise is coming from the rearend.

I know the suspension needs to be fixed up (ie: the car is not quite level) but I want to know if this is something suspension related or if there is something wrong with the rearend itself. Ideas?

(oh yeah, and it only does this under part throttle shifts)
