Axle Seal R&R Post Mortem and questions
Hi,
I replaced the axle seal on my '86 V6 Camaro this weekend. This was my first time working on a GM rear end.
I did not use locktite on the bolt with the 5/16" head that holds the big pin. Should have I?
The two little gears that go between the gears on the axle shafts fell out when I wasn't looking. I got them back in with the little cups on 'em but I'm doubtful that they are back in the exact same sides they came out of. Is this bad?
I found this in the bottom of the diff case,
It's metal and looks like a piece of a shim to me. This can't be a good sign. What do you think?
The gears seem to work fine now and they are quiet so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed but I'd like to know what I should do, not do, watch out for, etc. for next time.
Frank
