4L80E run without computer?
Hello forum,
Right now I have an 84 corvette with a 406 8.5 to 1 compression engine with world products sportsman 2 heads. Im not sure on the power no dyno yet but it feels way more powerful than the 02 LS1 F-body Im compaing to. Anyway I have a Th400 transmission and going freeway speeds the engines turning 3000rpm, ridiculous, its too loud, and it feels like its gunna tear apart.
So Now Im thinking about taking the Th400 out, sell it for 300 or so and get a 4l80e and find a manual valve body for it and run like that for a while. Then after my funds recover I'll reinstall the original version and get a transmission controller. Cost 850
Anyway Where can I find 4l80e's and where can I find a manual valve body for them aswell? Plus how much power can they handle stock? How hard would it be to rebuilt them and which years should I avoid if any?

I don't believe so as all of the solutions that I have seen utilize a computer of some type to control the solenoids. All GM trans with the "E" suffix use electric solenoids to control pressure in the trans. These solenoids need direction from some type of controller for shift points, firmness, etc.

You can get a stand-alone computer to run the transmission. Except for the OD, 80% of the internal parts are TH400. If you want to run it without a computer, just install a TH400.
There's no way the 4L80E can be run without a computer any more than an EFI system can.
