So when I pulled the engine in my car a couple days ago, I THOUGHT that I had all the transmission-engine bolts out, but was missing one on the top. Well, I heard a clunk while I was jacking it up, looked down and there was my driveshaft and panhard bar. on the ground, cleanly out of their proper spots.

Now, I've never disconnected the driveshaft or panhard bar on my car before, so I dont know... are they SUPPOSED to be able to just slip out? Or did I end up bending and twisting and such for them to fall out?

Just slide them back together. It sounds like you just pulled the tranny too far and they both just slipped out. There are Three bolts that hold the Torque arm to the transmission and if you don't want a PITA you will attach the torque arm to the tranny before the motor goes in. The bolts are pretty close to impossible to get in when the transmission is up in the tunnel.

 

your driveshaft end that connects to the tranny is called a slip yoke, its meant to slide in and out to accomodate the changes in length from suspension travel. yes it will just fall right out.
