Non WC T5/88 305 TBI Install

I have converted my 88 convert (305 TBI) from a 700R4 to a T5 out of an 84 Z. It all went together great, except the trans was exceptionally tight going in the last quarter or half inch. we had to draw it in with the bolts.

now, we put the drive shaft in the trans, and push the clutch in, the trans won't turn over. Should it?? No it isn't connected to the rear end by the way. I'm afraid the input shaft is to long for the newer engine? Anyone know what is wrong, or is anything wrong with this? Thanks.

the input shaft should have anything to do with it. i have a t-5 out of a 83 z28 in my 90 rs. it isn't the lo3 anymore but it pretty much a lo5. i havn't had anyproblems with mine. i have pulled it about 5 times now and never had a input shaft problem.

I was thinking it might be the throwout bearing. I read that the clips need to be put on just right, and I'm not so sure they are right. I will pull it tonight, and try it again. Thanks for the reply. I think it should work ok now.

The easiest way to destroy a clutch. Works for getting that result more often than not.

Make sure, when you pull it back out, that the pilot bearing or bushing, whichever you used, is in the crank fully; and that the clutch disc is aligned as closely as possible. It may help if you put the whole hydraulics on before putting in the trans; and have somebody push in the clutch as you slide the trans in, until it's all the way in by hand.
