i can pick up a ring gear for 3.45 9bolt rear. but it has no pinion gear

i need to know if a 3.27 pinion will work with the 3.45 gear... i believe 3.27's are 36 tooth ring, and 11 tooth pinion. that comes out to 3.27 so if a 3.45 ring gear is 38 teeth it should work right?

No. It will absolutely not work. There's more to a pinion gear than just the tooth count; the diameter is different for example. Same for the ring... they're different thicknesses, to make up for the different pinion gear diameters.

Your arithmetic is correct though, as far as it goes.

they are a matched set anyway,

 

Gear & pinions are sold ONLY as matched sets.

 

yeah i know that....
i have been searching for 9-bolt stuff for a while and havent found anything. except the stuff at 9bolt.com and a few gear vendors. might have to invest in a 10bolt LS1 rear sometime.
