long time to downshift/automatic trans

not sure if this is the right board but didnt know where else i would put it

i have an 85 trans am with a non cc carb 383 700r4 trans. ever since i switched to non cc it has alot of lag when down shifting. actually the harder i press on the gas the worse the shifting is. the speed shops say it sounds lt sounds like a trans problem but it has a new trans in it and the old one did the same thing. also i do have the lockout torque converter kit for non cc cars on it(not the one with the button where you can lock out manually though). also i have an edlebrock performer intake with a 1 inch spacer on top(was getting vapor lock with out the spacer) so the gas peddle is alot heavier but even before the spacer the shifting was the same. just wondering if anyone has any ideas what i could look at to try to get the shifting back to normall. also i have had it dyno tuned so timing shouldnt be a problem

Sounds like the TV cable either isnt adjusted properly or the geometry is off. Yes, either of these will kill the trans in short order. I found out the hard way.

Also, you can wire up a lockup switch in place of the ecm to lock the converter. The ecm basically just provides a ground path for the solenoid, thereby inducing lockup. In the ATSG, there are schematics for the wiring for the TCC solenoid circuits for various years. Those should give you some idea of what you have to do. There are kits available as well to restore automatic lockup.
