T5 and T56 flywheels interchangable?

I tried a search but couldnt find a solid answer. Does anyone know if the flywheel used on a L98/T5 combo would also work with a L98/T56 combo? Parts in question are '89 L98 (3rd gen), '91 L98 (3rd gen), T5 (3rd gen) and T56 (LT1 4th gen). Both setups would use a 1 piece rear main seal, 153 tooth, neutral balanced flywheel right? So if you had an aftermarket flywheel it would work for both setups? If anyone can verify I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Yes I can verify.

No they are not the same; at least not for a factory LT1 setup. The T-56 flywheel locates the clutch disc surface about ½" farther away from the engine than earlier ones such as T-5 or 4-speed ones.

So no, your T-5 flywheel WILL NOT work in the combo you have listed. You need the stock LT1 flywheel, or equivalent aftermarket unit.

I ran across a pic of a T-56 one. This is the one for putting a stock LT1 T-56 behind a 2-piece rear main seal motor. Note the thickness compared to your T-5 one.

Thanks for the info RB!!! Darn it looks like my plan wont work. I was hoping to buy an aluminum flywheel for my current T56 swap into my 91Z28 (94 T56 mated to 91 Z28 L98), and then later on when I swap the motor in the 91 to a 2 piece RMS setup, I wanted to transfer that aluminum flywheel over to my 89 IROC (w/ stock L98 and soon to be TKOPerformance T5).

So the L98's from 3rd gens are 1 piece RMS or 2 piece? Sorry for the retarded question ...

And again ... really appreciate the help.

1-piece

The stock LT1 flywheel configuration will fit on it. You don't need the "special" one like in the pic.

McLeod has them for the 400. I believe Centreforce does as well.

My Weir setup uses the original 2-piece ms flywheel with the T56--no problem, no adapter, no other special stuff.

That particular one is Centerforce. They also make one already correctly "unbalanced" for a 400. www.centerforce.com and look through their catalog.
