High performance Transmission help
Well I am trying to get an Auto tranny for the new project. I am torn between a TH350 or TH400. I am going to be buying a transmission completely done....it has to hold up behind 520-550hp NA...and a small shot of spray. Any suggestions on a which model would be best and a good brand would be greatly appreciated. I will be running a ATI 8" MRT converter if it matters. Also I have yet to decide whether or not to get a transbrake or not too. Let me hear what you guys think!!

If you don't want to worry about it no more, just change filter and fuild 1 or 2 times a year, buy a th-400 and forget about it.
It's alittle heavier than a th-350, has alittle higher gearing (2.52 vs.2.48), but it's one if not the stronggest trans designs around.
I like to get my transmissions done buy a local shop. That away if there's any probs it can be took care of fast and easy. There's a good performance trans shop about 20-25 miles south of me, that I got to rebuild my th-400. I took a core in and he built it for $500. If you want to go that route, go to your local drag strip, dirt track, etc and talk to the guys there and see who does thier trannys.
If you want to buy outright check with chris at www.ckperformance.com He's out of NY, but does one hell of a job on performance trannys, and a pretty good price on his stuff.
A brake will be faster no question, but is your car set up for it? Is it a full time, nothing but drag car? Are you racing for track champ, points, money or just playing and running test and tune?
You will need a strong rear end, driveshaft, u joints, converter, etc for a trans break. So unless you have a ford 9", chevy 12 bolt, etc dont even think about it unless you dont mind ripping a rear end up every weekend or so.
Will you have the traction for a brake? If you cant dead hook the car (1.30's-1.50's) 60' time, theres no reason for a brake as it will just cause more wheel spin
