Questions galore about axles :D

Ok, i have very little knowledge about axles and gears and the what not, so i was thinking maybe the good people at Thirdgen.org have the answers...

Question #1
I have no clue if my axle is posi or not, what can i do to test/check if it is?

Question#2
Why does my back right wheel spin on a concrete floor and my left side stays put when it's in drive and i'm holding the break? (a sign that it's not posi?)

Question #3
I'm pretty sure it's a 2.92 gear in the back, what can i do to upgrade it and what do you guys recommend?

Question #4
How much time, effort, and cost do you guys think it would be to upgrade to a 3.23 or 3.7X posi gear?

I think that's all of the one i have for now, Thanks in advance!

3 swap gears what do you have, want, and application?
4 day or so, not a lot of effort if you know what you're doing, 200-500 depending on how you get there

1: Jack up rear of car. Spin one wheel forward. If the other goes backwards, it's not a posi.

2: Either the posi is completly worn out or it's an open diff. I'd go with the open diff.

3: Depends what you have and what ratio you want to go to. A 2 seriers carrier won't accept deeper 3 series gears unless they're made to fit a 2 series carrier etc. Find out what you have first then decide what you need. You may need to buy a new carrier but then you probably want a posi anyway.

4: See above response. It might be cheaper to take it to a shop to have new gears installed. That way you get a warrenty and the job is done by someone with the proper tools.
