T56 Questions

I am upgrading to a 350 soon and I don't think my current T5 will last much longer with a motor making more power so I was thinking of going to the t-56 and I have a couple questions.

1. What year and model cars can I pull a t-56 from that are easiest for the swap? or which ones can I buy new?

2. Does it take the same clutch as the t5 or is it different?

3. What is needed to hook it up to my current speedo?

4. Are there any driveshaft mods that have to be done?

1. 94-97 (LT1)

2. No, it is different. Get the trans, bell housing, flywheel, clutch, hydraulics, shifter, and all hardware. You'll need them all.

3. Go to www.jagsthatrun.com and take a look. They're about the only source I know to buy one already prepped. Although, it's not all that hard to do, so you might be able to find somebody that can do it for you.

4. No.

5. You'll need an aftermarket crossmember; neither the 3rd gen one nor the 4th gen one will fit and work. I'd suggest getting a crossmember/torque arm combo, such as from Spohn.

yes they do, but they also have a much better built T56. For the ones that dont know, the 93 T56 has a 3.08 first gear and the 94-97 has a 2.97 first gear,,,,or was it 2.66.

What is so "much better built T-56" about the ones with the smaller clutch gear?

Is modifing the tailhousing simply switiching out parts, or is there some fabrication required??

The Jags That Run thing RB posted is a straight bolt-in, no fabrication needed.
