T-5 power range

What is the safe operating range (horsepower and torque) for a stock T-5?

stock horsepower and torque, unless you want to break it.

I hear ya! But torque is what kills trannys and rearends. As far as HP, I have no idea how much they'll take.

I think the WC T-5's are rated at 240 ftlbs. although I've heard of people running engines with way more than that and no problems. With street tires, limited traction they can survive for awhile if you don't speedshift and constantly beat on them and run stickies.

Ouch. So that is why there were no T-5s behind the 350s. Are there any kits for it to reinforce it? What about the T-56s? Would they be better? Would I need to buy the transmission/bell housing or just the trans? Would the bell housing fit the t56?

T56,TKO, Tremec, G Force, Hanlon and a few others. I won't open this up for a debate over which is "better", because they're all good options.

I suggest you do some searches and gather all the info you can before deciding. This topic has been entertained many, many times!!

The Tremecs and others are 5-speeds, right? Is there a World Class t-5? If so, is it any better than stock?

the world class t-5 is not much better then the non wct-5. if you are wanting a t-5 to hold just go with like a g-force kit or somthing along those lines. or if you want upgrade to a t-56.

Ok. Thanks. Where could I find a kit and how much would it run me? I wonder if the labor and money in the t-5 would be worth it or if the t-56 would be better cost/value wise.

I have found that if you dont bang shift the t5 it will hold a lot of torque. I run a 355 with ported L98 heads, ZZ4 cam, performer intake,750 4bb, 1 5/8" headers, dual 2 1/2 exhaust. This is a very high torque combo. The trick is to run low gears. I run 4.11s running low rear gears reduces the torque load on the trans.

For what its worth, I am going to go with the Gforce option on my WC T5. I have been researching for almost a year and have come to the conclusion that its the best way for me. Alot of people are big into the T56, and thats just fine, but not for me. I already have a WC T5 and my car was orginally equipped with that tranny. All I have to do is just rebuild the box and it will bolt right in. No hassle of swapping parts and making them fit. Just my plans...

the non WC is rated at 240 ft pounds..the WC is 310ft pounds..

my combo makes almost 430HP and 450 ft pounds with a box stock 650 DP carb...(the A/F was just under 14.5:1), so theres more HP and TQ in it

havent tried launching it hard yet (no slicks) but i powershift the **** out of it....this has been going on for over 3 years...stock 3.42 gears out back...i really really beat on it..
took it apart over the winter to have a looksee and its all hunkey dorey
i guess i have a "built on wednesday" tranny =)

IF it breaks ill be going G-force aswell

I think I will stay with the t-5 till it brakes then I may do the rebuild or may just go t-56. (I like the extra gear for mileage, if you get the right one.) Not sure. What about the 700r4's? Are they any better?
