Paging Dana and Chris718... 700R4 question

Is it worth messing with an '85 core for a mild street car? I uderstand that you should avoid the 82-84 completely, but I am not sure of the problems (if any) with the 85-86 models. The car in question is a Chevy II (light... around 3000 pounds), with a mild SBC (currently a 327... 5500 rpm max).

I have this core from an '85 Caprice and I'd like to rebuild it. Am I wasting my time? I'd like some opinions from the OD pros!

They had part throttle shift timing issues in many cases, they have no forward accumulator, smaller input sprag, less 3-4 clutch capacity when trying to add additional clutches, narrower low reverse roller clutch, etc. Use a 1988 & up unit, to start with.

I have the '85 core, and I am not putting lots of power through it. Is it REALLY that bad? I don't want to hunt down / buy another core if I do not have to.
