Axle/Gears: Borg Warner 9 Bolt With 3.70 Gears

Did Pontiac's ever come with factory installed 3.70 gears in the Borg Warner 9 bolt I just got one and the tag on the cover says it has 3.70 gears I thought 3.45 was the highest gear you could get with a 5 speed but i might be wrong

- Common factory ratios were 2.77, 3.27 & 3.45, uncommon factory ratios are 3.08. After market ratios are 3.70. Ratios that I offer are 3.23, 3.45, 3.73, 3.9 & 4.10 (actually 5.13 but bring your visa card, and 3.9 is special order).

That's strange cuz the guy i got the rear from said it came out of a stock 86 WS6 5 speed with a L69 305 HO car i know in 86 you could get 3.73's in the 10 bolt but it dosent say anything about the 9 bolt

3.70 gears were never offered in a production car. They were available from GM over the counter back when the cars were new. Maybe when you bought the GM gears, the tag was included.

I wonder what kind of a nightmare it would be to get spedo gears for that ring and pinion. Might have to use the ones for 3:73's.

they did come on very few l69 manual cars. I have seen listings for it in 85-86 and I know there is a post in here with the picture of the tag (just like the one I am sure you have)
