I have a 2.77 rearend that I pulled out of my car when I bought it. I replaced it with a low miles 3.27 rear. My question is I have always heard this loud bang when I move the car from forward to reverse gears and out of N or P. It did this with the old trans/rear, but now with the new trans/rear it seems a little more pronounced, and it's not getting any better. What gives? I just went out and checked the old rear end and it seems nice and tight. Pulled the cover and spun the yoke and there is no play at all. Would play be causing this clunking? If so where can I get parts to swap a 3 series carrier and some 3.45's into my old 2.77 setup? The teeth look as if there is barely any wear also. This leads me to believe that the original rear must have been services at some point. I doubt it would look that good and the fluid that clean if it were all original 135k miles on it. Anyway can you guys point me in the right direction to get some parts to put the better gears in my 3.45? Thanks

Have your friend in your picture sit in the car and move the shifter from N to P while you walk around the outside of the car. Check your u joints and the splines of the yoke as well as the splines of the output shaft of the trans. Also check the flex plate on the back of the motor for cracks.
