rebuilt tranny... and I get nothing...Probuilt and others please respond
So here's the deal. Took the old tranny out, replaced all the seals, put it back in, it was still leaking. It was the front pump bushing. Thats fine.
I knew somebody with a rebuilt 700r4 for 300 bucks but it didn't have a convertor with it...no big deal, I'll use my old one!
I tried to drain the torque convertor as much as I could, I got about 2 quarts out. I didn't put anything back into the convertor. Then I bolted and connected everything up (changed the tranny pan gasket and the filter), I put 5 quarts into it....ran it through the gears...didn't have anything...added another quart...repeated the process until the fluid level was good....but the problem I am having is that it will not go into ANYTHING. Park does catch so I guess its going into it, but no reverse, no drive, no first, no second. It doesn't even still like its trying.....now could I have messed up the converter or worn out / busted the tranny or something inside it? or could it be something stupid that I am overlooking..... please help me out

yes...I think I know what happened...the tranny was from an 83 surburban. My car is an 86 z28...I was reading and the input shaft on the '83 is 27 spline, and my TC was 30 spline...is this correct? if so I hope I didn't mess up the teeth...ugh, should have done more research.
Do you think the input shaft AND the TC are both stripped out? I guess I'm just looking for somebody to say "no it will be fine" so I can give this tranny back to the guy with the surburban without it being messed up...and then get my '86 rebuilt.

I'm pretty sure you can't seat that converter on there. lol. You probably would like to take a look at that!

Just a side note:
I might be wrong but Pro-Built told me to never install a converter empty. You're suppose to prefill the fluid in it else you can burn it up on start up.

Ya, He mighta burned it up IF it actually seated on the tranny. If it didn't then it just spun and muffed up the splines. If it did somehow seat on the tranny then ya he prolly burned it. You definetly need to put fluid into the converter on startup. Thats how the converter works. It uses the fluid to cool it and it helps turn the impellers that are attached to both sides of it. Most likely hes screwed. Sorry dude but sometimes you gotta learn the hard way. I know I have.
oh well, lesson learned. when I get a chance I'll take the tranny down again and hopefully the input shaft will be good at least so I don't have to pay 300 bucks for a tranny I'll never use! The TC, eh, it sucks but its not THAT big of a deal....I'll get one when I take my original tranny to be rebuilt....I'm getting a discount so with a stage 2 shift kit, vette servo, and a rebuilt TC...its like 900.....I think that is VERY reasonable....considering this is a very reliable shop.

I've got a decent 86 700R4 that will need a rebuild(slipped when power braked in 1st gear so i pulled it out right away) and i also have a Precision Industries 2800rpm stall Vigilante converter if you are interested in either. PM me if you want them.
