Trans Am have posi or open diff?

I'm looking at a 1988 Trans Am with a 305. Did they all have a posi rear in 88 trans ams ? How can I tell if its posi? Thanks

Well, depends on the test drive you could always light up the tires and tell that way.

Take a look at the rear diff cover, if it's a posi there might be a tag indicating as such. Or you could jack up the rear end and spin one wheel, if the other spins the same way, it's the real deal.

Not all TA or all Irocs or all Z28's came with posi's. The only scientific way to tell is by removing the cover. Only cars that had rpo G80 came factory with a posi.

lighting the tires up from a stop

if both tires have equal grip and enough of a shock they both might spin

my rx7 did with an open rear so did my celica spinning both tires on the rear with open rear ends

with the jack the car up even that can't always tell. you might have a worn posi or something else going
