5-spd Tranny from v6 3rd gen
Heys guys. I'm new to the forum and just had a question to ask. I wanna swap my 700r4 for a t-5 Borg warner. I know the t-5 will be a grenade waiting to blow under a 305, let alone the 350. I can't really find the 5-spd from a 305 maro/firebird, but plenty of v6 5-spd are around. What i wanted to know is if the 5-spd from the sixers are BW's. I know i would have to change the bellhousing and do a rebuild inorder it to live under the torque our engines create.

Yes the 6-cyl ones are T-5s; and the T-5 was made by Borg-Warner (BW).
They will only work on a V8 if you use either a 6-cyl clutch (very weak) or get a custom clutch. In other words, spend extra money and do extra work, to downgrade your car to lower than stock.
You still need ALL the other parts from a V8; the 6-cyl bell housing and flywheel won't work on a V8. In other words, wherever you find those other parts that you HAVE TO HAVE, there will be a transmission along with them.... in a V8 car. The trans is only one part of the battle.
Even if you found the right all that other stuff and settled for a 6-cyl transmission, you will hate it. You know how your 700 makes your engine go from "scream" to "lug" when it makes its first shift? Now imagine that at EVERY shift. The 6-cyl T-5s have a 1st gear that's about 4:1, as compared for example to a T-56 1st gear of 2.66:1 in the 94-97 F cars; so all of the "steps" between gears are REAL wide. Basically, you end up with a situation where you never have the RIGHT gear for any given situation, you always need at least one more in between the ones that are there.
V8 T-5s appear in the classifieds on this site all the time; and on ebay.
There's a reason the 6-cyl ones are common as dirt and nobody's buying them. Nobody's buying them, because nobody wants them, even for near free.
Get the right transmission. You'll be alot happier. You're going to be doing a buttload of work and spending a wheelbarrow of cash, even if you get the transmission itself for free; no sense in doing all that work and spending all that money, just to end up creating something that will be a disappointment. If you're going to do it, do it right.

Thanks alot man. I've been asking around for days and couldn't get an answer from anyone. So what can i possibly do to the 700, to make it good shifting tranny? Shift kit, servo, b+m megashifter would be nice, what else could i possibly do to make it a performance shifter? You save me alot of money, and thats the 3rd time ive heard if you're gonna do it, do it right. Now will finally listen to that.

Seriously, I don't know too much about 700s, they don't interest me much.
You could get yourself a 94-97 T-56. That's what I did, after I got sick of tearing up T-5s.

I was kinda hopping you say that, cuz now it makes me really wanna get one. Ok. So what rebuild kits can i get for the V8 T-5, can't really afford a T-56 to buy and rebuild (probably wouldn't have to anyway) , but i really wanna get the T-5, just checked the classified like you said and someone was selling one for $250 w/bellhousing, not bad at all. I gotta check back later though when i get the money to buy one.
