semi-urgent torque converter question

Ok, this is REALLY pissing me off.
The tranny is a rebuilt 700R4, 27 spline and lockup
First torque converter I bought was a TCI 2600 stall 27 spline non-lockup, which ended up not working because a) summit sent me a 30 spline, and b) i guess ya need a lockup t/c on a lockup tranny, cant use non-lockup
sent that back, and got a killer deal on a slightly used B&M Holeshot 2400 from a guy i talk to fairly often
Anyhow, he had used the t/c on his Monte Carlo, which had a 200R4.......part number on the t/c is 70415 which is for the 200R4/700R4 27 spline lockup
Anyhow, i cant get the torque converter on any further than i was able to get the TCI
the farthest back part of the t/c is level with the bellhousing of the transmission
I've tried turning and pushing, no real "click" and it doesnt go any futher on.
The tranny came with a stock torque converter, which went on all the way with no problem (literally just put it on, give it a little spin and a push, and it went on ALL the way)

Any ideas on what to do? This is the only thing holding me back from getting the car running again
Thanks,
-Chris

Many of the brand ne convertors we've installed required a tapping with a 4lb plastic hammer to help coax it into place. Tolerances are alot tighter with aftermarket convertors than factory stuff, and I've never seen a new one just "slide right on". They've all taken more muscle than what most are used to to set it.

As long as you verify spline count is same, add more muscle and start tapping with a hammer as well when your spinning. Sounds normal to me.

This is true. To add to it, a newly rebuilt trans will also have a new bushing that the converter slides into. This new bushing snugs things up as well.
