Gear Ratios for the So-Called WC T-5
The ratio for my 85 LG4 with T-5 are as follows: 2.95, 1.94. 1.34, 1.00, and .63. Is the 88-92 version any different?

No different.
Some have a .73 5th gear, in both the 1st design and 2nd design. The low-perf cars (LG4 & L03) got the poorer .63, the high-perf cars (L69 & LB9) got the better .73.

Is there a way to determine which 88-92 T-5 has the .63 and which has the .73 without digging into the guts--I wouldn't know what I was looking at anyway?

By the way, some of these later T-5's had electronic speedos. Would that be a problem for my mechanical speedo?

To determine the ratio, put it in 5th, turn the output shaft 10 times, count how many revolutions the clutch gear makes..... 6.3, or 7.3.
No the VSS thing is no problem whatsoever. The hole in the transmission is identical whether it came equipped with a cable "sleeve" or a VSS. Unbolt the one, install the other. The drive gear on the output shaft is even the same, for any given rear gear ratio.

We found out the hard way that is not true on a 700r4, I'm not sure of a T5, but on a 700r4 its not.
His trans went and we had to swap a trans from a TA with 2.77's into his 3.23 V6 bird with a V8 swap. His speedo reported pretty high

Manual & auto are different.
In a manual, cable & VSS are identical.
I know this to be so, because I ran a 91 T-5 in my 83 car for quite some time; still have the VSS laying around in fact. AAMOF you could take that same VSS and put it into a 1960s T-10 or Muncie if you wanted to.
