Inspection Shroud Missing
My "inspection shoud" is missing. This is the piece that cover the torque converter and a fly wheel gear (?). How important is that piece? I've been without it for over a year at this piont.

I would consider that piece necessary. It keeps debris out of that area and protects those components from weather (water splashes on your torque converter hub and rear main seal surface)... Put one on, you can find one at the junkyard or at the dealer..

I think I agree. I was a little surprised to see the exposed gear and torque converter exposed to the world when I was under the car last.
I'll add it to the junk yard list.

I haven't had one on my car for over 3 years. And my clutch is exposed to the elements. But it is a good idea to have one, I just don't car enough to put it on.

You can get a cheap shiny metal one off eBay for cheap. Bling bling! On my silly 700r4 my inspection cover bolts all broke off so having wasn't an option so I had had to upgrade to a T56

Make sure you get one for a 153 tooth flexplate... Plenty of them out there are for the big 168 tooth, and won't fit the starter.

Failed inspection because mine's been missing for 4 years. Just now they felt like hassling me about it after spending $$$ to try and get it passed last time.
The part isn't that important. Having water/mud splash on it doesn't do the TC harm but the flexplate teeth might not like it.
The ONLY time I had an issue with mine was when I was in a rush and splashed into a large puddle that hadn't frozen over yet. Well the next day it wouldn't start and when I got it jumped I heard the ice shatter and the car started right up.
Other than that, never had an issue. Infact I bet my transmission temps have been lowered now that the TC can expell a lot of it's heat.

I have never run one either on mine and has been fine. Although i can not get one to fit either. (had a spare one from my 84 camaro) and it will not fit around the starter. Was going to put the starter on the engine from the original engine, and the bolts did not line up for the starter. not to mention the starter is about 1/3 size larger than the other.. So basically i am stuck. Took it to a dealer and they were stumped by it too. Probably came from the fact the engine that is in it now had a th350 on it, and everything was just dandy. put a 700r4 on it with the original size starter and it won't fit.. lol
