about how much HP can a healthy standard 10 bolt rear end handle before it would put too much stress on it?

 

They've been broken on the street with a V6 and they've survived 11 second passes on the strip. It all depends on what kind of abuse it's put under.

I built mine a year ago with new gears, solid bearing spacer, and welded the tubes to the center. Never have got around to buying Summit's rear cover yet. The Auburn posi carrier broke last weekend with quite a bang. The gears and what not all look great still. This is with maybe 2000 miles last year and lots of abuse in a car that has 300 to the wheels.

ive broke three,

1st was 7.5 inch 9 bolt posi
2nd was a open diff with a mini spool and street tires,
3rd was a open diff with the spiders welded and slicks,

all in a car with around 365hp.
the slicks really ended the last one pretty quickly, it broke the axle on the third drag strip pass.

next step is a moser 12 bolt
