i was just curiosly looking into swapping a stick into place of my 700r4, i know a f-body T5 isnt worth the time, but what else would work, the car's about 365horse, and the main purpose is drag, so i dont neccessarily need an overdrive gear....

could i use an older muncie 4 speed, and just use BMR's torque arm relocation mount, or is there any possibility of usinga mustang world class T5 with a chevy bell housing???

any insight would help, thanks

Define drag. Drag radials, slicks? Suspension mods? What are you running now (1320 and 60ft)? How heavy is the car (stock weight or stripped down)? Rear gear ratio?

Those questions vital to the answer beign correct.

Your basic options are WC F-body T5, upgraded WC T5 with superalloy gears, G-Force T5 (4-options), Tremec (5 options), T56, or other more difficult swaps like a Muncie or Super T10.

In truth I wouldn't recomend going with a Muncie. They are getting scarce, and good parts are getting harder and harder to find. Plus the prices have skyrocketted. M21s break 1st gear all the time at the strip, especially with slicks. That wipes out 1st gear and the cluster gear. Pricey to fix. M22s are tougher, but they are also much, much rarer, and a lot more expensive. Parts are even harder to get, and they aren't breakage free either. These transmissions have a nearly mythical reputation, but if you talk to the old timers who used to race these cars when they were new you'll find out the truth. They were great at the time because it was all that they had, and they were better than a Saginaw. Hard use would make them come apart though. Grumpy Jenkins used to keep enough spare M22s so that he could change the trans after every pass, just to be safe. I must have fixed the M22 in my dad's Chevelle ten times over two years. I cut my teeth working on these boxes. The newer designs are a lot better, more efficient, and stronger. The metallurgy is a lot better than it was 40 years ago.
