Need tranny help (I searched :D)

My transmission had never given me any troubles, and I've always changed the fluid regularly. I also have a cooler. It shifted fine when I was on my way to work. When I left I got up the road and stopped at a light. When I went to go again it was as if it was in neutral. After shutting it off (And having people give me a few choice words), I got it to go into 1st, but it was as if once I got to around 3000-3500 it seemed to just slip, but not down into a different gear. I'm gonna remove the pan and see if I can find major shavings. I'm wondering if this could simply be a bad converter, or I should plan on a rebuild and more $

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. However, it sounds like it is toast. Sorry.
