m-21 into 87 firebird
m-21 into 87 firebird
I know this has been asked a lot on here but i was wondering if anyone could give me a list of parts i would need to put a m-21 into my 87 5 speed firebird. Would it be easy to go with a mechanical or hydraulic setup?

You'll need an aftermarket Xmember and torque arm for sure... you can visit a few of the TGO sponsors for that. I know Spohn makes them for sure.

You'd be a lot better off to just sell it on eBay and use a better trans.
To make this swap work you'll need a crossmember with a torque arm mount, and the torque arm that goes with it. Then you'll have to figure out how to make the linkage work, probably requiring you to use '82-'83 mechanical linkage parts and pedals. I'm not sure if a stock driveshaft will work, if one will I'm guessing it's the '82 Super T-10 shaft, wich is going to be hard to find, especially since most driveshafts in junkyards are ruined anyway. The shifter setup is going to be hit and miss. Maybe a shifter for a Super T-10 will work (a Muncie and a Super T-10 are nearly identical). Depnding onthe year of the Muncie you may have to buy a shifter and linkage kit and then some additional parts to make it work, since Muncies changed over the years in terms of shift arm mounting, but T-10s are all the same.
Seriously, a T5 or T56 is a much better choice, as these problems aren't encountered in those swaps. With the kind of money the Muncies are bringing now you'd be better of to just sell it and get a trans that will be an easier and cheaper swap.
