My Posi Slips... BW 9Bolt
Well, I have an 86 Borg Warner 9bolt with 2.73 rear end.
Last time I got to do a brake stand only one wheel spun. And last time she was on a lift I spun one wheel and the other spun in the opposite direction. It used to never do that.
I know 9 bolts are expensive to build and find parts for, But I like them. How much is it looking to cost me if I get a used 9 bolt carrier at a junkyard and rebuild the actual part I got, and just place it in mine once it’s finished (excluding the carrier costs?)
I don’t have machining tools, or any of the sort. I like the 9 bolt since its stronger then a 10 bolt (maybe not rated much higher but we all know it can take much more).
What are my options? Also, how would I go about getting gears such as 3.23? Why do gears in a rear end need replaced, if the ones I find are in decent condition they can be reused right?

i thought the 9 bolt was only in 87-89?
and they had 2.77, 3.27, 3.45, and 3.70 ratios
i have no clue where to get rebuilt parts for them. you can buy gear install kits including all the bearings and stuff to get a new ring gear in but actually posi parts i dont know of.
there was a sight selling the spyder gears and such
Ratech manufactoring i think
also randy's ring and pinion sell 9 bolt gear install kits and such

Miles sells replacement carriers and IIRC replacement cones to fix your slipping problem.
WWW.9BOLT.COM or WWW.DIFFSOLUTIONS.COM
they take you to the same site. iv delt with Miles and was pleased. hes sometimes slow on replies as he has other busnesses besides 9 bolt. if you choose to go into the carrier and fix it yourself i have a PDF file on how to do it.

Yeah, my '86 IROC Z28 has a 7.625" 10-bolt. If you've got a 9-bolt it was swapped in later.

well sorry, but i'm sure its a 2.77. It even has 2.77 stamped on one of the 9 bolts on the cover. Plus my RPO codes show its a 2.77.
How hard is it to fix these things?

My 86 had the 3.27 posi disc 9 bolt and it would sometimes do what yours does. the cones (I believe they were cones) were wearing out.

Whats a good price for a 9bolt at a junkyard? What like $100?
If i could get a decent 9 bolt with the gears i want, i could probrably rebiuld it out of the car when i have the time todo so.

lol are they that rare?
I have a friend who's dad is selling a 99 WS6 rear end. The thing was fully loaded. and some semi ran it over and they bought it for parts. The rear end i made an offer for $100. They accepted but i told them i may not be able to buy for a short while.
Is it worth it to swap?
I will keep stock rims becuase i like the way the different offset makes the rear wheels stick out.
