quik easy question about axles

I never had my 9 bolt rear apart. I will be putting different backing plates on my 88 9 bolt to run the pbr brakes so need to pull the axles out. I would asume I have to pull the diff cover of the back and unbolt something to let the axles slide out, what might that thing be?

you have to remove the retaining bolt that holds that big pin in place. then you can remove the c-clips and remove the axles.

you do not need to remove the cover on a 9 bolt. simply remove the 4 bolts/nuts on the axle flange and pulll the axle out.
