If you're at high throttle then it's not going to granny shift at low rpms. My stock transmission would shift at 5500 rpms or so at WOT (wide open throttle). Course it would never get a WOT upshift into OD (4th).
Now, if you go to stand on it at low rpms and the transmission will not downshift into a lower gear then I would be a little concerned.

Keep an eye on this. It could be an early warning sign that the trans is getting tired. Typically, when a 700R4 starts to go bad the 3/4 clutch pack starts slipping, and then the shifts start to get higher in RPM, and more drawn out. Eventually, it will lose the ability to lock in a gear and it will not shift under WOT. You will have to lift your foot off the gas and allow it to shift and then get back into it.
If it is just starting to do this I would try installing a set of Vette servos and a TransGo Reprogramming kit. This will reduce the clutch overlap time to hopefully extend their life a bit more, and the Vette servos will apply the clutches with greating holding force. If the trans then lets go you'll already have the modified valve body and the Vette servos for re-use in a rebuilt trans. Those two additions should be considered mandatory for any 700R4 destined for performance use, even in a stock car.

ill take u in consideration too. like i was saying...its only when i stomp it..u know? quickly. its only the one gear. theres just one long gear. if im driving normal its normal shifting and its as smooth as can be

Well, if it's first gear then it's probably normal. GM designed the trans to hold first gear a bit longer to try and overcome the huge drop in RPM during the 1-2 shift. The spread in those two gears is consdierable.

With a stock trans you will have to take it back to about 1/4-1/3 throttle to get an upshift into 4th gear. Some very rare police package cars has a forced 4th gear upshift, and maybe Corvettes. Otherwise you have to do some modifications to get a WOT 4th gear upshift. The easist thing to do IMO is to just modifyt he factory TV sleeve. You tap and plug two holes and then grind a transfer slot into the sleeve. This will give you 4th gear upshift at anything below about 97% throttle. The kit with the plugs and instructions can be purchased through Dana at Pro-Built.
