clutch or tranny???

I just noted some problems in my 89 RS the other day. When i was driving down the road in 5th gear, everything was fine untill I went to give it some gas, and the engine reved a little and the tack went up about a couple of rpms. Yesterday when i was driving I decided to see if I could get it to do it again. When the car gets warm it does it all to easy. If you are cruisin at about 2000-2300 RMPs in 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear, and just punch it, the car will rev up and not go anywear. 5th gear is the worst, it will rev up to werever you start to let off and then they drop back. I think this would be caused by slipping of the clutch, but when I am going along and tap the clutch, it revs up right away, then goes right back down, and doesnt slip a lick then. One other thing i noticed a while ago is when the car is in neutral and idling, if u let the clutch out, somethings starts to wine like somethings spinning in there, and if u push the clutch in it stops. dont know if that would be part of it also. Any feed back is greatly appreciated so i can get this fixed soon since it is my daily driver, and more than likely my old man and i will fix it, cause he is very good with small chevy's, and I got more time than money. Thanks

I know this isw a little old to dig up, but I am having the same problem after rebuilding my t5. it acts like clutch slipping but seems fine off the line. how did you solve your problem.

Thank you for the reply!

I just put my newly rebuilt t5 back in and it started having the problem. I had left the bell housing, clutch, flywheel on the engine all winter with the t5 off. Lots of clutch left, so I don't know why it is slipping. I figures, I should have swapped it out when I had it all apart!

Thanks
Chuck
