Custom Drive shaft too short...

I had one made for my old set up, T-56 and a 10 bolt. Had to be cut down ~2". So when I got my 9" w/ a 10 bolt yoke, I reused that DS b/c it was the correct length.

I twisted the splines in that DS when I broke the 9" and they built me another one w/ a stronger yoke and 3" in dia. to the same length. I go to put it in and I can still see ~4" of exposed DS yoke. My question, how far into the tailshaft housing should the DS go?

I don't want to twist the splines out of this one b/c it's not all the way in there.

Our local shop that spealizes in driveshafts recommends that you insert the yoke into the rear of the tranney until it stops, then pull it back 1".

If yours is sticking out that far you will have problems, fix it now before it costs you another driveshaft.

On a passenger car like a thirdgen, you should avoid bottoming out the yoke against the output shaft, or against the tailhousing but they don't need much more. The yoke slides further into the trans when the rear is fully drooping, so if you have 3-4" at that point, you need a new shaft.
