overdrive problem

I just bought a 1988 camaro that was a v6, but the guy put a 350 out of a '77 Camaro. It has a 700r4 tranny in it, but overdrive doesnt work. it runs fine but eats alot of gas because of no overdrive. he said that when he put the motor in, he didnt use the computer on the tranny because it didnt work with the motor. He said that if you put in a torque converter lock up kit thing in the tranny, overdrive would work, but i never heard of it. Does anyone here know anything about it?

yea. look in the summit cataog or on thier website. i do not have the catalog in front of me. but the cost is close to $80 for it so it locks up the converter and then it should work jsut fine.. although i did not have my tranny in the 83 plugged in and the overdrive actually still worked.. which was odd.. it would downshift into 4th and run just fine.. i do however think it severely shortened the life of the transmission.. but then it was not my doing as the previous owner has zip tied the connector to the firewall... Soo basically technically it should shift into od.. just not work the best.. but it should still hit 4th... if you shift into OD and it does not do anything at all there may be a problem with the tranny... But just to be sure... i would get the switch out of summit... it is made especially for the 700r4 transmission.

hmm. well.. you will need wire... and it says it comes with a picture of how it shold be wired in.. Personally i would rather spend the amount and buy from a place like summit or whatnot, just because i know i will get al the needed parts and the instructions and there will be no guessing as to either.
