Its called a manual valve body and you can get em through summit or jegs or any local speed shop, or any local rebuilder.

You can set up a TransGo shift kit like this in a 700R4. If you want a whole trans, ready to run check out www.700r4l60e.com Pro-Built can build you one like that ready to go.

You can set the TransGo kit up to allow either a manual shift override, or as a full manual, which will only shift up or down when you move the shifter. I like the manual shift override. It will shift normally when you put it in D, but if you want to shift it yourself it will hold the gears until you manually shift up or down. I think the kit is about $150 maybe. I've never bought one by itself. I get them in a whole rebuild kit from Pro-Built. If the trans is in good shape just install the kit, which I think also has a set of Vette servos, which are also a good upgrade. If you've got room to work and you take your time you can easily install a shift kit. Figure on a whole Saturday if you've never done one before. Make sure to keep everything very clean.

You can also tailor the RPM of the full automatic shift by changing governor weights. B&M makes a kit for this. I did this to get my Blazer to shift at 5,500 RPM instead of 4,500 RPM. That way I don't have to mess with installing a floor shifter, and don't have to worry about the lack of precision in the stock column shifter. However, with the TransGo kit I can still hold 1st gear for compression braking on hilldescent (while 4-wheeling), or downshift manually to help slow down in mud (where brakes don't really work so well).

Yes, exactly. You could use the stock shifter I suppose, as all the difference is in the trans itself. Most people opt for a ratchet shifter though, and I believe that B&M makes one that will fit right in the stock console. Do a search on thias forum and I'm sure you'll find info about it. I don't want to give you advice about it, because I've never installed one in a 3rd gen.
