NEED HELP ASAP!!! i need to identify what diff. i have i need spider gears....

I am jamed for time.... and money im working for the next 2 weeks without a day off so i need some help locating some spider gears as i just blew minw apart at the strip and its my only car ready for the road.

Ok in the spring i put a set of gears in my iroc out of another iroc 85 or 86 i think...... and i was told they were 3.23 but im not positive (how can i tell) anyhow i need to find spider gears that will fit in the diff. housing..........

-heres the numbers i pulled from the differential carrier GM 15 66 913

-then off the ring gear i got these numbers GM 14030328 12:14

-also if it helps the spider gears i need have 10 teeth.

-also if it helps i can give measurments to anyone if they need them as i do have calipers.

how common is this rear end and will i beable to find spider gears in a different make of car at the junk yard. The only 3rd gen there is a 84 or something firebird. What should i look for.....
thanks if you can give me any info whats so ever!!!!

you have a 7.5/7.62 ten bolt. just about any rear wheel drive car or truck from the 80s and cars from the 90s would have the same rear. 12:14 ought to be your ratio, but you have something crossed, like the 1 and the 4

Only thing to watch is the side gears will have to have the right spline for your axles, there was a change in the late 80s I'm thinking.

There are 3 different sets. What year are you working on? Do you have access to the spider gears? This is an open rear end?

ok yes this is an open rear Pro Built Automatics theres no posi track here if thats what you mean.

ede- oppps your right its a 12:41 (12:14 was my typo), but i was told it was a 3:23 whats up with that?

tom3- what kind of spline change was there and what should i look for...... does anyone know what year it changed??

My gf remembers it as infact a rear end i have is out of a 1985 Iroc-z
and i forgot that i also have a rear end sitting home out of a mid 80s S10 in the garage but im going to have to get a drive there 30mins away to check it out... what are the chances the spider gears only would fit because i scraped it because the ring and pinion gears were wore out and they are no good.

Oh yah and what size is the nut for the drivesaft yoke to pinion gear. If i have to change the whole assembly again ill need to buy that socket.

thanks guys looks like were getting somewere!!!

All 82-88 F-Bodies got 26 splines, 89 was the changeover year, and all 90-92 F-Bodies got 28 splines.

also if those rear ends are pretty common in the 80s right.... whats the chances of me finding a posi track rear end in the junk yard to fit my car..... what other car only came with posi or alot came with them. I like going to the upullit yard as i seem to have better luck there and i can get a rear end guts for 50bucks.

26 or 28 spline axls You have to have a carrier for the right axls. your 85 rear problebly has the 26 spline. the whole diff from the s10 should fit but if the ring and pinion are gone then you might want to swap the gears. good luck trying to find the guts in a bone yard for 50 bux. I have been looking and everyone wants like 200 or so for a rear. Good luck with it

yah 50 bucks is there set price per any diferential gears here and 100 bucks for the whole differential and axle. They have them on there price sheet. But i have to remove the parts myself... reg yards im sure want double then that.... plus these cars are picked over good and rear wheel drives are getting scarce in there. Only thing in there is the od s10 and a couple 1/2 ton chev's and a small handfull of the caprice and such and one or 2 monte carlo and grand prix.

ok heres the deal i took the gears out of the s10 rear i had and they are different spidergears also.... they are just like the ones my car had before the rear change i did in spring.

so heres the info i got from the old gears i had in the iroc (ring gear is destroyed):
(on the carrier) GM2 5387 (on the ring is) GM 14035665 13:42 (or '3:42)

heres the info from the s10 gears (not sure how well this rear end works as theres some funky chafe marks on the carrier):
(on the carrier) GMD5 5387 (on the ring is) GM-1 (large space maybe numbers wore off) -12:41-7 5/8

both of these rear ends have spider gears with 11 teeth and i need 2 spidys with 10 teeth.
geeerrrr

Anyhow a guy told me i should just weld the axle gears to the carrier and put the pin in after i clip in my axles and have welded posi.... whats the cons about haveing welded posi besides the tire ware????
