Speedometer reading incorrectly
Speedometer reading incorrectly
Hi folks,
I have an 88 Trans Am that the engine was switched from a 305 TBI to a 350 TBI. The rear end was switched from 2.73 non posi to a 3.23 posi rear end.
I know the speedometer gears in the transmission have to be changed, so the speedometer will read correctly. A dealer sold me some plastic gears that his computation table show that these are the correct gears to switch.
The tranmission is a 4 speed automatic 700R4. Could some one tell me, do I have to remove the tail assembly to change the gears, or is there a speedometer cable panel that I can open and switch the gears. Where does the speedometer cable go into the rear tail. All I can find is a senor connection that when I loosen the plate it is connected pours out transmission fluid. Please tell me what to look out for when I change these gears.
Thanks

Check out this link. It covers a speedo gear change.

I would also use the search function. This gets covered an awful lot and I bet you could find numerous posts that go into mroe detail.
