1991 TA 10-Bolt

May be a dum question, but I will ask it anyways. Yesterday my rearend (in car) starting howling/whining. A buddy of mine took a look at it, and seems to think the carrier bearings are going out. I am thinking of either trying to get a kit and fix it, or just trying to find a 3.73 rear end with disc brakes.

Anyways to my question:

Without taking the rearend apart, how do I know if it is a 25 spline or 27 spline? It is a stock 10- bolt rearend with drum brakes. Automatic (700r4) tranny.

Any help will be gratelly appreciated,

Thanks,
Scott

other than counting the splines, the only other way to know is measure the diameter of it, of which i do not know the size differences....
