4L60E shift question

Trans in 3rd, squeeze it a little and it "down shifts" into something other than 2nd. Pull shifter to second and it down shifts again. Floor it and 3-2 is fine and there doesn't seem to be any slippage. Acts like a 5 speed???? Normal? Problem?

That's your converter locking/unlocking. Kinda makes it feel like a 5speed.

Thanks for the responce. "Something" is thied unlocked and "Third is third locked. Doesn't behave the same in 4th? Wouldn't there be an unlocked and locked there also? But, it's not an indication of a future melt down?
