KICKDOWN, TV adjustment on 305 TPI

KICKDOWN, TV adjustment on 305 TPI
Hey guys!
When I stomp on the gas, motor revs in between gears but doesnīt engage until rpms go down and "catches" in 3rd(?). In other words no kickdown. Otherwise it changes gears smoothly in all conditions.
Haynes book reads to adjust kickdown, press release tab on TV adjuster. Then the cable corrects the tension itself. Is it really that easy???
Next thing. Birdīs starting to backfire. Sounds more like burping. It happens when I press the gas a little more before it changes gear. Sounds like it might be related, ie starves itself since it wonīt downshift.
Btw, Iīve admired this site for a long time. I found you guys in 2000 when I got my 1st f-body. Black 86 Z28 LB9 T-top. Now I have a T/A. Itīs a fine machine too. Iīve learned alot- THANKS!!
