Electronic VSS Auto vs 5 speed info needed!

Hey guys, I haven't posted here in a while. I am planning on running an Autometer electronic 200 MPH speedometer in the car. I had a few posts earlier about it and I understand that the electronic VSS will be enough to run the gauge. I do have a 5 speed though. I have been to all the junkyards in my area to find an electronic VSS from a 5 speed f body. I have had no such luck. I did, however, find some automatics that have an electronic VSS. Can I use the VSS from an automatic? Will the auto VSS fit in the hole for the 5 speed? As of right now, I am using a cable driven speedo(the car is an 88 and was a v6 originally) Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul Moore

No, an automatic VSS is larger than a T5 VSS, and will not fit.

Can you still order one from GM? How about other aftermarket T5 companies? Make sure you dont get a Ford one.

Thanks for the quick reply! At least now I know that I definitely have to use a VSS from a 5 speed. That narrows it down significantly. Thanks, Paul Moore

Is this the one that I need? A very thoughtful member of this site is willing to help me out but I need to make sure that this is the right VSS for a 5 speed. It looks like the right one to me but I'm not positive. Here is the pic....

That looks like the one to me. Make sure you've got the right gear on it. Also, FYI, they are available through AC Delco. That's where I got my VSS and the proper gear when I did my T5 conversion

NastyL98_T/A: I am not worried about the gear that is on the VSS because the speedometer that I will be using from Autometer is one of those self calibrating units. I just needed to get the electronic VSS to use as a sender for that speedometer. Thanks for the info. Another problem solved you guys are great! Thanks again, Paul Moore
