5 speed swap

Hi,
My '86 Camaro with a 2.8L has developed a grinding problem in the tranny when i downshift. Looks like time for a tranny replacement. Could anyone help with what models and years of 5 speed transmissions will bolt in place? Just so I know when Im browsing the scrap yards. Thank You!

any 82-89 camaro v6 tranny or any 82-85 firebird v6 tranny should work with your speedo. other than that any v6 3rd gen transmission would work, but you would need to swap out the vss in the tailhousing for the mechanical setup that you have.

Thanks Naft

Thanks for the reply. On further investigation it just may be the pilot bearing making the noise. It started when I downshifted into 3rd. Now its happening in almost all gears even when the clutch is depressed. Oil level looks ok and fairly clean. Think I may have found the problem, but pulling it and inspecting is probably the only way to know.
