How would I know to adjust my TV cables?

Car: 1998 Volvo S70

Transmission: Automatic

How would I know to adjust my TV cables?
I have a 305 TBI engine backed up by a 700R4 tranny. The car's transmission is still fine however, I really can't remember if its always been like this.
Whenever I shift from first to second, I sort of feel the shift, from what I remember, the car shifted very smoothly, and from 2-3 gear shift I dont feel it at all, and from there on its like a flow in the wind.
I dont know if one of my TV cables needs to be readjusted or if my tranny is failing, I dont think the tranny is failing becaus ethen it would be worse, but it just ives me a slight feeling of being shifted, does this sound like a TV cable thing?
