How to replace pinned in U joints

Hi guys, I am going to be using a chevy 27 spline yoke, conversion u joints, and a Ford fox body 45.5" driveshaft in my 2nd gen HSR'd 327 mpefi'd camaro with a newly installed T5 trans. Problem is I need to take the 27 spline yoke off the stock chevy driveshaft and install it on the Ford. I already have the correct U joints to adapt between chevy and ford parts, BUT how do I get the u joint out of the chevy yoke? It's pinned in. I will also need to reinstall the new U joint into the chevy yoke. I have access to a shop press but have no idea how the pins come out -- do you have to drill and destroy them to get them out or is there something I can do with ordinary tools to get them out in one piece?

same way you get any thing out of the yoke.. you have to press it out and then press the new one in...

I'm talking about the "non-serviceable" gm driveshafts that do not have clips retaining the U joints -- they have pins. I was told that these pins are actually a solder-type deal where they have to be heated to be removed. I think I may look for an older chevy driveshaft at a junkyard that has a yoke with the older style clips.

They're held in with injected plastic. Heat up the yoke with a propane torch until most of the plastic comes out the injection holes. Once most of the plastic is out, replace the u-joint as normal.

Yea, dont be afraid to get em hot. The plastic will ooze out of the holes like a "worm".

Thanks guys -- If I can avoid crawling around under cars to find an older style yoke that would be nice. Okay so I know how to get the pins out now -- torch. What do I use to replace them, steel dowel pins? Does anyone know what size dowel to use? Or do I not need to replace the dowels (will the press fit hold the caps in?)

Replacement u-joints should have an inside snap ring

Wow I can't believe the answer was that simple. On inspection, the replacement u joints do indeed use internal clips. Super! This was a lot less of a hassle than I anticipated. Thanks guys!
